Ultrasonic testing TOFD
The ultrasonic TOFD technique (Time of Flight Diffraction), in contrast to other ultrasonic techniques (which use the amplitude reflected from the ultrasonic wave discontinuity), uses signals from diffraction waves that arise on the edges of the defects.
Thanks to this, the orientation of the defect in relation to the surface does not affect its detection. This technique is characterized by very high sensitivity and accuracy and allows very accurate dimensioning of cracks. It is used in automated systems for testing butt welds of tanks, pipelines and sheets. There is also the possibility of recording and archiving test results together with their digital analysis.
